The Outsiders: The Complete Novel
Oct. 29th, 2007 05:29 amThe extended version of Francis Ford Coppola's 83 movie. About the poor white Greasers and their rivals the "rich" Soshes. Lots of Brat Pack actors. Swayze, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Estevez, Rob Lowe, C. Thomas Howell. Even Ralph "Karate Kid" Macchio. Who are a very weepy bunch of tough gang kids. No really, this movie is just...well...gay. Honestly, it might be better if moved from being subtext to actual text. A nice Rome & Juliet/West Side Story type thing. With gay kids...
And while this is version has a different start and end from the beginning, I haven't seen the regular version in like two decades, so I'm not sure if its improved or not. Really, I'm kind of neutral on the movie. Anytime they have some character building moment, you get some weird scene. Like the Deus Ex church fire/kid rescue...

The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury
Oct. 29th, 2007 05:26 pmI'm not normally a fan of Peter Chung's animation style, but it mostly fits the Riddick series well enough. Except for the last fight scene. Then it just seems to lose out on the already limited connection with actual proportion and anatomy. Anyway, the basic concept is Riddick, "Jack" and the Pilgrim Guy are flying thru space after escaping Death Night Bug planet. When a Merc ship picks them up. The Merc leader is a crazy lady who likes to capture dangerous bounties to essentially freeze them in carbonite as art. And she's got a crew of killers and monsters to back her. And then Riddick kills shit dead...
