New Comics in a bit, but first a new Wednesday game. [profile] spoonyone moved his Saturday Forgotten Realms game to Wednesday, thus allowing me and Brendan aka [profile] kafeixuesheng to join up. And even if it is 3.5 (yech) I always enjoy gaming with Noah. And the game went mostly well. Brendan got lost since he'd forgotten the store had moved and Kelley (the GM from the Deadlands disaster) was late as usual. So it started several hours late. And then the whole thing nearly fell apart when Kelley refused to even TRY and work out a way for his Dwarven Paladin to associate with Brendan's LE Kobold Sorceror. But Brendan backed down and changed his concept to get the game moving...

We (and also new player Dan) joined the other players (Matt, Rob and Kelley) as part of a group trying to help the lord of Daggerdale against the Zhentarim. I went with a standard Halfling Rogue, who I made a native of Daggerdale with some hate for the Zhents. We went with Lord...fuck can't remember his name even after using it all night towards Cormyr to hopefully recruit more help. Along the way we had a night encounter with a trio of ogres and an ogre mage. And my rogue (after a succesful back stab on the oni) got tagged with a crit. For about twice the hps he had. Bye Tolly, I barely knew ya. [profile] spoonyone felt really bad about that, but que sera sera you know?

So I decided I'd go with a Cormyrian Infiltrator (sort of combo rogue/ranger/spy from the KoK setting). Not that I had the book to finish him, so we just guestimated what he'd probably be able to do in the 2nd encounter. Attempting to protect a group of Halfling merchants from a group of marauding bugbears. Unfortunately the bugbears sucker punched us, distracting us with a frontal ruse by several of them under a magical fog bank, while the main group swam in behind us on our flank. They came out of the river and slaughtered the merchants before we could wade into them. Eventually we managed to triumph despite 2 to 1 odds against us and thats where we ended for the night...

Also it may be that some of the real life issues between players may lead to a smaller group next week. We'll have to see...

And a delayed post due to gaming. A moderate sized pull this week. I got the reprint of the 2nd issue of Dynamo 5 finally and added it to my list. The book is about 5 half-siblings who are the illetimate children of the recently deceased super-hero Dynamo. Each has one of their parent's powers. Flight, super strength/toughness, laser and x-ray vision, telepathy and shape-shifting. The widow of Dynamo secretly leads the group in defending her husband's home city...

Then we've got a new Fables where Flycatcher looks for a teacher in the ways of battle, Frau Tottenkinder tells the mayor's office about her own personel intelligence sources and the secret of the Forsworn Knight is revealed...

Next is a new Army@Love which continues the crazy, though this issue features a great deal less sex. And violence. While upping the jerk levels of several of the leads...

After that its Ex Machina with Mayor Hundred dealing with the Strange Visitor during the black-out. And with his powers not working...

I also grabbed the first of DC's minx line, The Plain Janes. It is indeed very girly, being about teen-age girls coping with high school. I thought it was very good and made an excellent start to the new line...

Plus a new Hellblazer trade, The Devil You Know, collecting the remaining issues from the old Delano run. I've never read these, just recaps, so I'm looking forward to that...

1st third of movie. Nothing really happens. Well a lawn gnome is used to vandalize a car. Thats about it. 2nd third, lovey girl love and Born Again types who don't act like utter self-righteous dicks. Ah, how sweet. 3rd third. Everything falls down and everyone gets the crazy. I was hoping for something along the lines of The Positively True Adventures of Two Girls In Love. This was not that. I am sad. Even with lesbian makeouts and brief nudity. Sad sad sad...

Can we confine debates on 3.x D&D, a system I dislike A LOT, to somewhere else. I play it because I love gaming and I'll put up with it for that. But there are plenty of places that aren't MY journal to yell at each other about the strengths and weaknesses of it. I prefer other systems for fantasy, ones that have their own sets of broken ass rules.
