lurkerwithout: (Puss in boots)
An amazing movie. Even down to the final reveal at the end. Of course some things are still unexplained, allowing for everything to be both a trick or magic. And to paraphrase the Chief Inspector at one point "and either way its something amazing". Helped along of cross by Ed Norton at the top of his game and the always stellar Paul Giamatti. Even Jessica Biel carries her role off to perfection, something I would not have expected from her. Oh and I loved the way they would film certain scenes to hint at them being from a period camera. Definately getting added to my buy list...

And now the final S-Z, mostly S:

S: Scary-go-round: Updates 5/week. Ok this one is...no its about...er. Right. Its a comic where pretty anything can happen. Killer robots! Friendly robots! Gorgeous female spies being sent to the Prisoner's Village! Vampires! Teen Sex! Demons! Wacky Super Science! Wales!

Spork: Updates 1/week. Another surrealistic adventure comic. I've got a lot of those don't I? Probably because they can be totally awesome if done right...

Sam & Fuzzy: Updates 3/week. A slacker loser and his tiny bear roommate. Who battle ninjas. And tour with death metal bands. And maybe theres some time travel occasionally. And ok so there might be demonic possesser entity. Did I mention Ninjas?

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal: Updates 7/week. Gag-a-day. Very dark humor gag-a-day...

Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki: Updates Normally 1/month. Magic Girl Anime mash-up with Norse Mythology for transgender amusement...

Schlock Mercenary: Updates 7/week. Far-future science fiction story centered around a ragtag band of oddball mercenaries...

Smithson: Updates 1/week. Another comic by [profile] shaenon, this one centered around a would be comic book artist at an art school. With masked vigilantes, magical music cults and other odd things...

Starslip Crisis: Updates 5/week. Another far-future scifi comic. With less worrying about scientific accuracy. About a giant space art museum. That is an art museum aboard a space-ship. Not a museum of space art...

Sluggy Freelance: Updates 6/week. One of the longest-running webcomics around. Humor, adventure, homicidal bunny rabbits, demons, aliens, vampires and more...

Something Positive: Updates a lot! A darkly cynical slice-of-life humor comic that still manages to be beautifally touching and uplifting. There are few other comics that cause me to swear at a computer screen as much as this one...

Shortpacked: Updates 3/week. Or 4. Sometimes 5. Stupid iconsistanttly updating [profile] shortpacked. Best to just follow the lj where he mentions when he updates. Plus links to the free version of the comic Shortpacked spun off of. And the newspaper style tie-in that comes out on Sundays. Anyway its a workplace comedy set in a toy store...

Striptease: Updates 3/week. Relationship comic centered around the staff of a small press comic company. Now with 12% more lesbian content...

T: Theaterhopper: Updates 3/week. Though only the Friday strip is by the creator, with the others being guest strips until his kid is born. Anyway, a humor comic centered around current movies and entertainment trends...

Tweep: Updates 3/week. Relationship comic. Fairly slow paced...

Todd & Penguin: Updates 2/week. Currently on hiatus for awhile, but rerunning some old "lost" strips 2/week untill May. A man and his penguin. It can be dark, yet also very sweet...

U: Umlaut House: Updates 2/week. Originally a modern super-science furry comic. Now a more futuristic super-science furry comic. Currently pausing between storylines with filler comics...

V: VG Cats: Updates I have no idea so I just use the lj feed. Sort of furry comic that parodies video games sort of. In a way. For the most part...

Venus Envy: Updates 2/week when the creator isn't out of her head on pain meds. Slice-of-life about a transgender girl in high school. So lots of fairly dark moments...

W: The Whiteboard: Updates 3/week. Mostly furry comic about paintballers...

Wigu: Updates 3/week. A prequel to Rowland's Wigu Adventures. Which sort of spun-off from When I Grow Up. Anyway its the wacky adventures of the Tinkle family. Still featuring the cosmic interferances of Topato and Sheriff Pony...

Wiki's Lesson in Life: Updates 2/week when it can. Kier McFarlane will one day by Mrs. LurkerWithout, so the rest of you bastards keep your hands off. A beautiful and sweet and cute comic...

X: XCKD: Updates 3/week. Stick figures and geek humor that is often way beyond me...

Xeno's Arrow: Updates 1/month. Scifi comic set in the Intergalatic Zoo...

Y: Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic: Updates 7/week. Gamer humor comic from the monster's perspective. Warning of semi-frequent boobies...

Z: Zebra Girl: Updates *shrug* A modern fantasy/horror comic. Currently on pause/hiatus. Again. If the art wasn't awesome, I weren't totally drawn into caring about the characters and the storyline weren't just totally bad-ass I would have dropped this comic a while ago. Several times. Damn you Zebra Girl! Why must you haunt me!

There were a couple I forgot when I was first jotting down my list, so this probably comes out to a bit more than a hundred comics...
lurkerwithout: (Puss in boots)
Went to see this with a friend earlier tonight. One thing about it I wonder is whether Flags of our fathers mirrors it or is just a counter-point. Are some of the American combat scenes in the other movie? Oh well, I'll be getting the dvd soon enough and can check then. But this was quite a good movie. Very much in the Dreamworks/Spielberg Very Graphic Violence to Demonize War kind of thing. I can see where much of the hype for the movie came from. Definately a classic for the genre...
