Clearing the deck
Nov. 24th, 2006 04:04 pmFlipping thru my comics I come across Gail Simone's Villians United, the one IC mini-series I actually bothered with. And in the first issue the Six team includes JSA villian The Fiddler. Who fails at a mission and gets shot in the face for it. And I've got one question, why is he on the team in the first place?
As is revealed in the final issue of the arc, the Six were put together by Mockingbird aka Lex Luthor because each gives him an in to various other villians. Deadshot for the various Suicide Squad members, Cheshire for the Titan's stable of foes, Parademon for Apokalips and Darkside, Ragdoll for the JSA's classic enemies, Scandal for her dad and the Fiddler's replacement Catman for Batman's collection of lunatics. So given Luthor's motivations for creating the team, WHAT POSSIBLE REASON IS THERE TO INCLUDE THE FIDDLER AS A MEMBER?
The only reason for him to be there is so Simone can show that this is a team of bad guys by having them kill one of their own right at the start. Plus given the dig made about how a classicaly trained violenist calls himself the Fiddler, who's "replacement" is new villian Virtuoso, I wonder if his death was just because he annoyed either Simone or an editor at DC.
