Sunday Game: Thieves' World
Nov. 19th, 2006 10:32 pmSo this week we went back to the TW campaign. And it was decided that we needed to formalize where our characters were living. Which given that last session we'd been hunting Stepsons and stacking their heads in alleyways, I could see why a GM might want to know where we were bedding down. Also this week Brendan was stuck working on a paper for school, so it was just my barbarian/ranger Vriese, Miles' godsworn Jared and Matt's rogue Ash. After a brief discussion we ended up deciding to get a boat. We wanted a barge (like Highlander) but had to settle for a more standard cargo ship. While out supplying and refitting the ship we learned that Prince Kitty Kat was sending the Stepsons off to Wizardwall for the Nisibisi wars. And had hired a Hazard mage to investigate who had murdered his man Tempus and was still killing his mercenaries...
So we decided to head up river to try and locate a Lyzerian Healer for Jared's (Miles) gimp leg. Of course before even getting out of the bay our ship gets jumped by a mess of big crabs. One of which spent several rounds imitating a face-hugger on Vriese. Luckily he wears spiked gauntlets and so was able to punch himself in the face until it fell off. Then as the crabs were finished off, their Big momma crab showed up. Mommy did some damage, but thanks to Ash's acrobatic Errol Flyn/Ninja moves, Jared's counter attacking whenever the crab attacked the boat and Vriese's massive hammer blows the beast was slain. And the local fishermen were shocked and amazed at our awesomeness...
It was at this point that a potential new player joined the group. I didn't catch his name but he was playing a rogue/pirate named Erastas or something. So with the new member we headed up-river eventually finding the canyon where the healer was believed to live. There we got attacked by some kind of bat-winged humanoids. After driving them off, I managed to follow a blood trail from the healer's hut to their lair...
After setting off most of their traps Vriese ended up in darkness at a cave entrance swinging wildly, while the others shot blindly at the bat-men. Luckily they managed to not hit me. Unluckily the bat-man shaman person botched a spell. Getting an earthquake result on the botch tables. Which for those actually IN a cave (like me) was bad. The others managed to drag my broken body out of the cave-in just as Vriese was hitting -9. Now technically it was a spell mishap that brought down most the mountain (and burying the healer we were trying to rescue). But the official story, at least the one I plan on telling, is that Vriese Fishbane's rage was so great that it destroyed a mountain. Dread my anger oh potential foes. Fear the fury of Fishbane!
