And so this week I started running my Star Wars campaign. And I had forgotten how poorly laid out West End's main rule book is. Especially the character creation section. Still everyone managed to common sense their way thru it. Surprisingly no one went with a Jedi or Jedi variant...
The game is set out near the borders of the Rim and Imperial space, starting up basically at the same time as the Battle of Yavin IV. I basically put everyone in a space station/casino/money laundering front called Po's Star Palace. Anteus Po is a Rodian "businessman" and legitimate front for Jorgan the Hutt. Jorgan's only rival in that area of space is the corrupt Imperial Moff Hime Engstro...
Noah was running the station chief for the casino, a smooth Lando type named Jek Falken. Miles went with a Wookie pilot apparently, named Aroooonk, who occasionaly worked for Falken. Matt went with a human smuggler named Griffen who had just stopped by for some R&R. And Brendan had created a Herglic (pimp-ass space whale-man) intirent tech named Basso Vroool. He (like all of his race) was sure that he had a system to guarentee he'd win at the tables...
So Brendan is doing some gambling, and rolls the first of many, many, MANY botches for the night. He loses all his money, spills a drink on the Wookie and accusses the dealer of cheating him. Security is about to drag him off for the old rubber hose treatment when they get called away. At the same time Falken hears about the disturbance, which is odd since nothing shows up on his security cameras. He figures out that his whole system has been hacked and goes to figure things out. Along with his personel lawyer-droid LD-604...
Well, it turns out the station has been taken over by pirates. Pirates who claim to be Rebels. They round up everybody, eventually seperating out the players. When all but three of there guards depart Falken busts out his hold-out blaster, but is beat to the punch by one of the pirates. Who shoots the OTHER two guards. A quick fight takes place, ending when the Wookie destroys one of the pirates. Note to self, never get in any kind of brawl with a Wookie character...
Turns out that the pirates are actually Imperials in disguise, part of a propagandist named Commander Lavarus Creel, all under the command of Moff Engstro. The Moff is looking to link the Rebels to piracy, take a financial bite out of Jorgan's business, create conflict between the Hutts and the Rebels and further feather his own nest all at once. The pirate who helped the party is an ACTUAL Rebel named Tam Tome...
And thats when they find out that the "pirates" have rigged the station to destruct. The party flees for Griffen's ship, getting in another brief fight, getting out just in time. Once in space, they manage to convince "Captain" Creel that they're some of his men, forced to take the freighter to get off in time. Then they witness the "pirates" destroying all but one of the escaping civilian and station crew ships, planning to blame it all on the Rebels. Creel drops the interdiction field he has up to let one ship of survivors get away and the party takes the opportunity to jump away, planning to go to a smuggler's base owned by Jorgan...
Creel figures out where they'll be going, but thinks its because they're deserting with some secret loot he didn't know about. So he sends two of his ships (an attack shuttle and a freighter equipped with an intredector) to catch them. Given that Griffen's ship is just a bare bones freighter, the Imperials easily get ahead of them...
After getting ripped from hyperspace, the party gets in a dog-fight with the Imperials. Both Brendan and I botch on attack rolls, managing to break a ship's weapon. Unfortunately the Imperials had paired gun mounts, so the Wookie keeps making defensive actions while Basso tries to get their laser working again. And then both of us AGAIN botch. Brendan just blows up the freighter's weapon systems, while I take out the Imperials hyperdrive. The party manages to improvise and take out the Imperial ship by jettisoning their cargo directly into their attackers...
After that they salvage what they can from the defeated Imperials and head to onward to the smuggler base, Morgan's Moon. Falken convinces first Po and then Jorgan that the whole thing is Engstro's fault, keeping himself and the others alive. Having cleared the Rebel standing with Jorgan's group, Tam leaves the group. And thats where we stopped for the night, with the party resting up, getting the ship repaired and waiting to hear from Jorgan how they can help make up for his losses and keep him happy. Which is when I let Matt know that the cargo he had and the debt on his ship were to Jorgan...
So I think the first session went well. We all need to bone up on the rules some more and I was a bit heavy with the plot hammer, but everything seemed to work out...
