And this week we survive triumphantly against the arrival of the Stepsons. Well we survived anyway. With Jubal and Tempus warring in the street we get hired by Jubal to deliver a message to his supreme assholeness. Jubal offers Tempus a one-on-one battle. Of course he offers us a grand each to ambush Tempus and take him down. So Vreise (me), Jared (Miles) and Ash (Matt) go to the pit-fighting arena with a couple dozen Hawkmasks, while Alaric/Tamerlane (Brendan) preps a slave to stand-in for Jubal...
Of course that all went to hell when Tempus and a hundred Sacred Bander Stepsons attack Jubal's complex. With another 40 elite guardsmen led by a pair of Stepsons go to the arena in case Jubal is there. Alaric and Jubal duck into a storeroom, where Alaric turns into a bird and abandons the slaver. So the would-be Blue Star Adept fled to a nearby building to the screamed curse of Jubal (and is likely actually cursed from it)...
Meanwhile back at the arena the two Stepsons demand we surrender Jubal and any Hawkmasks present and everyone else can leave. Now me, I can't resist the chance to take down a Morris character, I hate them all so. So Vriese downs a haste potion and charges out. After that the battle is on. Vriese manages to take down one Stepson, but takes some massive damage from his mounted partner. Including a 22 hp crit to the face. Jared carves up several of the guards, before helping to finish off the 2nd Stepson and snagging his horse. Of course he gets hamstrung doing it. And Ash manages to use his spring attack ability to take out several of the guards before fleeing over the wall. The Hawkmasks either break and run or get butchered by the Ranken soldiers...
Back at Jubal's complex Alaric decides to deliver some fireballs onto the massed Stepsons. He takes out quite a few before fleeing under a disguise spell. He then goes into hiding at one of the higher end inns...
So we end with my character barely managing to survive (and having to hire a herbalist to survive the infected wound), Jared in need of a healer to de-gimp him and Tempus and the Stepsons in charge of the city...
