West Wing Marathon
Jul. 4th, 2005 08:22 pmSo BRAVO is showing a West Wing marathon for the 4th. Same as they do for Memorial Day and President's Day. And there up to an episode early in Season 5. Or the 1st No Sorkin Season. The leaders of the House and the Senate (all Republicans) are meeting with Josh, Leo and Toby about the President's choice for a new VP. Keep in mind the President's pretty much JUST been reinstated after stepping aside during his daughter Zoey's kidnapping. In fact he and Zoey are having her FIRST post-rescue photo op at that EXACT moment.
So the West Wingers put out that Bartlett is going to name his Secretary of State. Decorated war hero. YEARS of government service. Perfect Veep canidate in fact. The head Senate dude says, yep he'll breeze thru no problem.
And then the Speaker, whos new 'cause the previous guy had to be Prez when Bartlett stepped aside, says the guy won't get thru without a big fight. And hands the West Wingers a list of names of people HE thinks should get the spot.
I had to turn off the tv.
It was just such TOTAL bullshit. There is no POSSIBLE way a politician would try a political fight at this point. For the next couple weeks, if not months, the President's approval rating will be THRU THE FUCKING ROOF. Not only from sympathy, but from his making the best decision for the country by temporaly stepping down.
But the new Speaker is the new "bad" guy for the season. And this will make the Veep choice more 'dramatic'. Or at least drama as John "Turned ER into the Event of the Week show" Wells understands drama. Fucking hack. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE Gary Cole, the actor who played v.p. Bob Russel. But I can't get past how unbelievable and unrealistic that scene was...
