[profile] crimsonjoe requested a rant on Web-comics. So here we go...

First off check out Websnark , who does a MUCH better job of covering the world of web-comicdom then I could. Now in convient LJ-feed form for extra convience...

So why should someone start reading any web-comic? Well, one because theres lots of quality stuff out there. Something to suit every taste. Both free and subscription. Right now I'm spending 11 bucks a month on webcomics. Or about a tenth of what I probably spend on print comics in a month...

I suscribe to Graphic Smash for about 3 bucks a month. Though I'll probably switch over to their yearly subscription. This is a great site. So far comics I like vs. comics I don't care for is at about 5 to 1. And theres a dozen or more left for me to read. But so far I've rediscovered Faans and found new treasures like Digger and Killroy and Tina . A great value of dollars vs. entertainment gained.

The other (and more expensive) subscription site I belong to is Slipshine which is an adult comics site. Frankly the 8 bucks a month is worth it just to avoid the ad/spyware and whatnot you get trying to find free adult comics sites...

But what free web-comics should I read you may ask? Well it depends on what your looking for. So lets offer up some recomendations after creating some grouping categories.

*Gaming/Nerd comics: These are comics about gamers and/or their characters for the most part. Except for PvP which is about Nerd-dom in general. And intelligent cats and semi-mythical trolls. And relationships and workplace comedy. Anyway some others worth your time:

Fuzzy Knights . Yes its a photo comic. Yes its about living stuffed animals. And yes its funny and well written and a wonderful comic that should be enjoyed by all.

RPG World and 8bit Theater are for every one of you who called in sick to work just so you could keep playing a Final Fantasy game. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll beg your GM to let you come up with a Hadokken fireball spell for your mage...

Theres tons more out there that I should plug, like Cheshire Grin and Order of the Stick and Once Upon a Table...but I'd be here all day if I don't limit things.

*Relationship Comics: These are the books where the humor/story is driven by the personal relationships of the characters. And they can range from simple slice of life stuff to way out there. You can have the relatively normal if bitter to the down to earth and sweet to the way the hell out there .

Theres more categories to do, like Gag a Day and Action/Adventure and Fantasy, but I'm in need of a break. So more later, plus Stuff that Sucks.

I was gonna say more about web comics and stuff. But my brain is not working. Something about Making Money and some other comics and stuff. And talking about why MegaTokyo isn't worth following anymore....

But can't do that thing. You know, where you string together words to form coherant statements? That thingy? Arggh! Brain go explodo!
