New webcomiceyness
Jan. 15th, 2005 06:14 pmFirst yay! LiveJournal is back. We should get the admin guys a fruitbasket or a hooker or something...
But onto what you all really want! My recomendations on things to spend your time on! Yes I know you've all be sitting around and wondering "What should I do? I don't know what might entertain me until Lurker tells me." And now I can...
I've just added several new webcomics to my read list (while culling out a few that ceased to entertain or never updated). The first I found while cruising around the now-ended by still great Demonology 101 and is No rest for the Wicked a weekly fantasy comic. Its about a princess who wants to release herself from a curse. And so has to find the Moon and bring it back to life. Closest comparisons to this are Fables and Castle Waiting. I'm liking the story so far and the characters used so far, especially Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and Beast. But the art is the vaguely Manga style that seems to popular of late...
The next couple can be blamed on Websnark a.k.a.
demiurgent.
The first is Checkerboard Nightmare . I've got still got over a year to go on the archives, but it had me within the first weeks strips. And it hasn't let go yet. Sheer lunacy on a semi-regular basis. Its pretty, its funny and it sucks you in with its exuberance. Mmmm, big 8 dollar word...
The next one is Pearls before Swine which given that its a newspaper syndicate, some of you may have seen in the funny pages. But I don't read the paper much anymore so I found it here online. This is a nice, friendly cartoon animal comic. The art is very basic, but I still like it. And it delivers the humor every day. Sometimes its a chuckle and sometimes its a smirk and it even occasionally hits guffaw. Good stuff...
The last one is Yirmumah . The closest thing I can compare this to is Penny Arcade . Except its not about gaming. And its meaner. It's technically one of those self-referential comics about web-comic creators. Except its funny.
