Weekly Pull 9/21

The Wicked & the Divine: 1831AD: Writer Kieron Gillen, Artist Stephanie Hans & Letterer Clayton Cowles.  A one-shot, with the celebrity Divinities this time being period writers.  I'm terrible at figuring out the "real" people who become gods are, but I think Shelly is Morrigan, Byron is Lucifer, Mary Shelly is Woden and her sister is Woden.  And Keats maybe as Hades who dies at the start?  I'm even less certain of the several mentioned and shown in passing.  Like the thing with the killer ape and stolen heart makes me think Thoth is supposed to have been Poe?
Savage Dragon #216: Creator/writer/artist Erik Larsen, Letters Chris Eliopoulos, Colors Nikos Kovtsis & Flats Mike Toris.  Ugh, an Ant cameo.  Also Larsen is not the best at drawing babies.

Giant Days #18: Written by John Allison, Pencils by Max Sarin, Inks by Liz Fleming, Colors by Whitney Cogar & Letters by Jim Campbell.  End of the year and housing woes, term paper mill woes and possible dating non-woes.

Superfuckers Forever #2: All James Kochalka except the short Grotus back-up by Laura Knetzer.  Superdan is back and Princess Sunshine and Jack Krak are a feuding for his attention.
Jem and the Holgrams #19: Written by Kelly Thompson, Art by Meredith McClaren, Colors by M. Victoria Robado & Letters by Shawn Lee.  Dang.  Them Stingers are jerks.  Driving Pizzazz back into selfish, angry jerk mode.
ROM #3: Plot/Script by Christos Gage & Chris Ryall, Pencils & Colors by David Messina, Inks by Michele Pasta, Color Assist by Alessandra Alexakis & Letters by Chris Mowry.  I have to admit I kind of have a hard time remembering that war vet Darby Mason and police officer and Wraith infectee Camilla Byers are seperate characters.

Dark Horse Presents #26: EiC Mike Richardson.  No Finder this issue = sad.  Still, work by Kaare Andrews, Paul Levitz, Al Gordon and John Arcudi.  Also a Maverick/Crazy Cops story by Jimmy Palmiotti and Just Gray NOT working with Palmiotti's wife.  Not that Aaron Campbell is bad or anything.

Knights of the Dinner Table #235: Development Team Jolly R. Black Burn, Steve Johansson, David S. Kenzer, Brian Jelke & Barbara Blackburn.  Those previous harsh truths have put Brian in a bit of a depressive funk.  Also the Black Hands start a new campaign with Nitro back behind the screen.

Weekly Pull 9/14/16

Southern Cross #7: Story Becky Cloonan, Art Andy Belanger, Colours Lee Loughridge & Letters Serge LaPointe.  How nice, more cosmic space horror mystery.  With a single survivor from the missing "Southern Cross" arriving at Titan.

Resident Alien: the Man With No Name #1Script Peter Hogan & Art Steve Parkhouse.  Also nice, a new chapter/mini of Hogan & Parkhouse's mystery solvin' alien small town doctor.  With more government conspicarcy-ing.

Astro City #38Writer Kurt Busiek, Artist Brent E. Anderson, Lettering & Design John Roshell & Jimmy Betancourt of Comicraft & Color art Peter Pantazis.  1929s Astro CIty with a little more of the Blasphemy Boys and introducing pulp-era capes Cloak of Night, the Five Fists, Yankee Sheikh (and a hunch-backed mad scienctist foe I'd like to see more of) and the issues main attraction Jazzbaby.  Who may have been Mr. Cakewalk?  Which makes me wonder if she/they are an era-specific entity and thus maybe connected to the Bouncing Beatnik?
Doom Patrol #1Writer Gerard Way, Artist Nick Derington, Colorist Tamra Bonvillain & Letterer Nick Derington.  I was pretty much sold on this new semi-Vertigo Young Animal launch title just by Gerard Way writes Doom Patrol.  And it is gloriously almost incomprehensibley weird.
Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy #4Written by Chynna Clugston Flores, Pencils by Rosemary Valero-O'Connell, Inks by Maddi Gonzalez, COlors by Whitney Cogar & Letters by Warren Montgomery.  All the groups are now in vacation house for the never-ending birthday party.  And maybe have a plan to break the spell holding them all.  Of course there are still TWO whole issues to go so complications must ensue.

Weekly Pull 9/7/16

Only had one title this week, since the latest Giant Days was delayed by Diamond.  So I picked up and added The Flintstones comic, grabbing the first three issues.  Writer Mark Russell, Artist Steve Pugh, COlorist Chris Chuckry & Letterer Dave Sharpe.  Satrical, funny and dark without being too grim & gritty.  You've got immigriant worker exploitation, runaway consumerism, discarded ptsd war veterans and 1st world entitlement spoiled vacationers among other themes in the first three issues.

And the single regular pull Paper Girls #9Writer Brian K. Vaughan, Artist Cliff Chiang, Colors Matt Wilson, Letters & Design Jared K. Fletcher & Color flats Dee Cunniffe.  So it turns out to be only two time variants of Erin and one time-traveling clone of Erin.  Plus a time blimp.

Weekly Pull 8/24/16

Invincible #130: Writer Robert Kirkman, Penciler & inker Cory Walker, Colorist Nathan Fairbairn & Letterr Rus Wooton.  So back on Earth Robot is seeming to be more and more the benevolant tyrant but Mark still doesn't trust him.  Sure its all end poverty and fight off alien invaders now, but in a 1000 years it'll be all SACRIFICE YOUR LIVES FOR THE GOD-EMPORER AND CONTINUE HIS IMMORTAL REIGN.
Island #10: Editors Brandon Graham & Emma Rios, W/ content by Farel Dalrymple, Gael Bertrand, Fil Barlow & Remy Boydell.  I am like 50% certain that I'm mostly buying this title to help ensure that a title like this keeps getting published.

ROM #2: Plot & script by Cristos Gage & Chris Ryall, Pencils & colors by David Messina, Inks by Michele Pasta, Color assist by Alessandra Alexakis & Letters by Shawn Lee.  I'm still on the fence on this ongoing and the attempt at making an IDW-verse.  But I'm fully onboard with lines like "But though the Wraith-Hawk's song is fearsome...
...my Neutralizer sings louder!"

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #11: Writer Ryan North, Guest artist Jacob Chabot, Color artist Rico Renzi & Letterer Travis Lanham.  Squirrel Girl has face off against the deadly Count Nefaria.  But its a dream.  And she kind of gets him confused with the Count from Sesame Street because she doesn't have her Deadpool brand trading cards for villain info.  And so she teaches him how to count on his fingers in binary.  LEARNING!

Weekly Pull 8/17/16

Dark Horse Presents #25: Editor Mike Richardson w/ various creators.  Latest "Finder" section by Carla Speed McNeil as always the big stand-out for me.  Though more Paul Levitz detective noir, Al Gordon post-apocalyptic Tarzan, Rich Wodall's space-girl Tarzan and a closing to the latest "Mr. Monster" story.

Superf*ckers Forever #1: by James Kochalka.  This was a nice surprise.  I hadn't heard anything in advance about Kochalka doing another volume of Superf*ckers.  I also grabbed the variant cover by Ryan Ottley, letting me see what the characters would look like if they were part of Invincible.

The Wicked & the Divine #22: Wirter Kieron Gillen, Artist Jamie McKelvie, Colourist Matthew Wilson, Letterer Clayton Cowles & Flatter Dee Cunniffe.  And as Persephone and the other Pantheon members confront Anneke this story-arc closes.  Violently as always.

Lumberjanes #29: Written by Shannon Wattes & Kat Leyh, Illustrated by Carey Piesch, Colors by Maarta Laiho & Letters by Aubrey Aiese.  April is very enthusiastic about the first joint breakfast with Zodiac Cabin.  Which is spoiled by supernatural shennagins.  Looks like teen goddess Diane has got some 'splainen to do.

Howard the Duck #9: Writer Chip Zdarsky, Penciler Joe Quinones, Inkers Joe & Paolo Rivera, Marc Deering & Joe Quinones, Colorists Joe Quinones with Jordan Gibson & Letterer Travis Lanham.  Guest starring actress Lea Thompson.  Who is apparantly the aunt of Eugene "Flash/Agent: Venom" Thompson?  Anyway Lea has been having blackouts and dreams about talking ducks so she consults with the world's best known talking duck.  And then of course the whole thing leads to Mojo of the Mojoverse.  Because of course it does.
The Unbeatable Squirrel-Girl #10: Writer Ryan North, Penciler Erica Henderson, Inker Tom Fowler, Color artist Rico Renzi, Flashback artist Kyle Stacks & Letterer Travis Lanham.  Oh man, I didn't even notice the cover joke with Mole Man sporting the fedora/trilby and saying "M'lday".
