Howl's Moving Castle

This is probably the first Miyazaki movie I don't like. Its pretty as always. And the imagery and characters are great. But the plot just meanders all over the place, the ending just shudders to a stop with no decent explenation. And the "curse" on Sophie is terribly inconsistant. Plus what is the message its going for? War is bad? Love conquers childhood magic bargains? Hat girls are smarter than wizards? Just a truly dissapointing movie from an otherwise great director...

The curse was inconsistent because Sophie herself was inconsistent. As she learned to stop being so afraid, she shook the curse off herself.

The war, though, yes -- thrown into the movie for no good reason.

Amen to that! I just left the theater going, "huh." Or maybe "meh." Either way, I was unimpressed.

Funny, that one is one of my favorites. I see the point though. the war was kind of eh. It seems like it was supposed to be longer.

I didn't really like it either. Q likes it, but she does say that the book is much better. Princess Mononoke is my favorite Ghibli film, with Kiki's Delivery Service a close second.

I agree, kind of an "off" effort for him. I love the way it was drawn, but why throw the war in at all.

Hat girls are always smarter than wizards. Not just ANYONE can accessorize.
