Any movie that dares to let itself have an "unhappy" ending always earns some extra points from me. Add in some great acting by the support cast of local crazies (especially Eamonn Walker as Baptiste) and gun runners. Plus Cage's normal manic/depressive acting style fits the character well. At two and a half hours, it does run a bit long...

I liked it at first, but it did run long. The slow slide into the ending was taxing. Still, not too bad.

If you want a movie with a really good unhappy ending, watch The Power of One.
