The Coen's remake isn't as bad as I'd heard. Tom Hanks is entrancing if over the top. And Marlon Wayans is only mildly annoying, always an accomplishment for him. But the final act, as the gang of thieves attempts to do in Hank's elderly landlady is farcical in its stupidity. Also picking Bob Jones University as Mrs. Munson's favorite charity, given their stance up until 2000 on interracial dating, seems in poor taste...
