Cerebus by Dave Sim
So Cerebus. Lets get one thing out of the way first. Dave Sim. Dave Sim is crazy. Not wacky, not eccentric. Bug-fuck, rat-shit, random animal-random swear CRAZY. This is unarguable to anyone who's read his non-comics writings. Well its arguable, and lots of people DO, but they're really, really wrong. Misogynist + Crazy = Dave Sim. Simple fact. Which doesn't change how really fucking good much of Cerebus is...
What started as a funny animal parody of Conan morphed into a satire on comics and then into just lots of weird philosophy, action, humor, celebrity cameos and more. Three hundred issues of it. Some of it is actually pretty terrible, having too much of the "real-world" Sim in it. Other stuff is just full-on awesome. Volume 1 here is the first 25 issues and its full of parody, barbarians, the greatest use of a fake Groucho Marx ever, violence, artists, weird women, weirder men, the Roach and more...
So there you go. Cerebus. Mostly excellent comic written by a really crazy person...

Dave Sim: misunderstood genius or just plain genius?
Apparently there is some debate as to whether or not the character Wonder Woman is misandrist. Because apprently, its not obvious to many of the blubber-enriched, sexually frustrated, appearance challenged, gynocerai in the blogosphere.
I have seen the depth's of stupidity, and thy name is Woman.
Yes Wonder Woman, the very concept of Wonder Woman is inherently misandrist. Yes Paradise Island is inherently misandrist. And yes, for the record, Gail Simone is still a fat fucking misandrist.
I would make a logical and compelling case to this effect, but honestly if you cant see the inherent misandry by yourself, then you are too stone stupid to read this column in the first place, and besides wasnt that your short little bus I just saw driving by? Don't forget your helmet.

Dave Sim: misunderstood genius or just plain genius?
Defending Attacking Dave Sim
Click to read a "defense" of Dave Sim. Though by defense, I mean more of an attack on his critics. I don't feel like creating an account for whatever comics village is to leave a comment, so I'll just do so here.
1. I like the comic. In fact I'm mostly happy with the 13 phone books of collected Cerebus I own. Even as Sim's philosophies start to leak in, theres still enough to enjoy that I can still recomend those first dozen plus books...
2. I'm a dude. Enjoyment of Tamora Pierce's books and Grey's Anatomy not withstanding, still a straight, adult, white male...
3. Sim is misogynistic, not because feminists say he is. He's misogynistic because he espouses a philosophy that holds women in disdain and expresses irrational anger towards them. He is misogynistic because he has responded in vile, angry and generally crazed ways to women who try to open a dialogue with him...
4. Sim comes off as insane (I won't say he IS insane because I have no training in psychiatry) because he says that sickness is caused by tiny demons. And those demons need to be shot into the sun. And because he feels that there is a vast conspiracy of women OUT TO GET HIM. Now its just my totally unproffesional and untrained opinion, but that kind of delusional paranoia comes off as TOTALLY BUG-FUCK CRAZY...
