Sunday Trade: Snarfquest

Snarfquest: The Book by Larry Elmore

A collection of comic strips from Dragon magazine. Snarf is a young Zeetvah looking to prove himself the worthiest to be his people's new leader. And to do that he needs to have some heroic deeds and adventures and most importantly a big pile of loot. So he sets out and encounters transformed princes, mad wizards, lost robots, confused dragons and cute warrior women...

Snarfquest was one of the longest running strips back in the old days. Along with comics like Wormy and Yamara and others it was part of what defined gamer culture way back when. Back before the spread of the internet and webcomics we had Dragon and the Dragonmirth section. Now there are print and online comics dedicated to all kinds of gamer genres and sub-groups. But back in the 80s we just had a few fringe magazines...

Man, I'm old...

Is that the first edition or the later one that collects the remainder of the Dragon strips (in which Snarf gets frustrated and bored with being King and joins up with B.B. Bird and Aveeare for a star trek)? Elmore was about to get a couple more years done in Dragon but then had to go on hiatus as other projects took priority. But some years ago he revived Snarfquest in Games Unplugged. Dunno how far that got of if it's still in print.
